Beer52 – August 2016

beer.jpg

Saturday saw the delivery of my most recent Beer52 box.
This was a special one, not just because of my recent photo competition win, bit it also contained two additional free beers as part of the loyalty scheme. That’s a total of 12 beers crammed into one awesome box of beery goodness.
This months box was packed with beers from all around Scotland and a non Scottish wild card from Chile.

With James Watt’s face plastered throughout this issue of ferment and particular attention being paid towards the brews of Scotland, It was great to see a vast selection from Brewdog. Especially some of the recent Hammer releases and an Elvis Juice.
It’s nice to see another Black Isle beer as I had a chance to try their gluten free offering Goldfinch which was pretty darn good!

Below you can find the box contents aswell as their tasting notes.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the best of Scotland have to offer!

Black Isle Brewery (Munlochy, Scotland) – Red Kite – Amber Ale

An amber colored ale, Black Isle Red Kite is brewed using only the highest quality Maris Otter pale and crystal malts for flavor and body. Challenger hops for bittering with the late addition of Styrian Goldings creates a balance of quenching citrus and malt, and a classic aromatic finish to this refreshing ale. This beer is bright amber with a toasted nut flavor and powerful orange fruit aroma.

Fyne Ales (Argyll, Scotland) – Jarl – Golden\Blonde Ale

A full-on citrus experience. Light and golden, a perfect ale for whiling away the hours on a sunny day.

Brewdog (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) – Jack Hammer– IPA

Start with a colossal grapefruit aroma. Pile on bitterness after thumping bitterness, and ride the anarchy wherever it takes you. The caramel razor is sharp, but the resinous bite drills straight through your taste buds.

For blitzing the mediocre, raising hell and revelling in the aftermath, Jack Hammer is the end of the line. The hopped-up, pucker-mouthed terminal extreme of craft brewing. This beer is bitter. Very bitter. If you push that button, don’t say we didn’t warn you…

Brewdog (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) – Monk Hammer– Belgian IPA

Jack Hammer has been single handedly ripping it up for quite some time. Now this IPA, has spawned four Hammer Head off-springs. Monk Hammer is the first of our super-charge hyped up hybrids.

Belgian yeast and American hops unite on a cardinal scale. Volumes of grapefruit, bow your head for a wave of spicy, fruity yeast character, then cross yourself for the bitterest of bitter finishes.

Brewdog (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) – Black Hammer– Black IPA

Jack Hammer has been single handedly ripping it up for quite some time. Now this IPA, has spawned four hammer head off-springs. Black Hammer is the second of our super-charge hyped up hybrids.

Dark malt and American hops unite to bring a new age of bitterness. Pithy grapefruit and resin combine with a dark chocolate and roasty coffee hit to deliver a resonating bitterness that goes beyond IBUs.

Brewdog (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) – Electric India– Saison

Electric India has the spicy, sweet notes of a Belgian saison combined with the explosive new world hops of an American IPA, amplified by the addition of peppercorns, honey and coriander.

This vibrant hoppy mash-up incorporates early and late hopping, cranking up the electrifying citrus character of this bone dry, effervescent saison IPA hybrid.

Brewdog (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) – Elvis Juice– IPA

An American IPA with a bitter edge that will push your citrus tolerance to the brink and back; Elvis Juice is loaded with tart pithy grapefruit peel. This IPA has a caramel malt base, supporting a full frontal citrus overload – grapefruit peel piled on top of intense us aroma hops. Waves of crashing pine, orange and grapefruit round out this citrus infused IPA.

Edinburgh Beer Factory (Edinburgh, Scotland) – Paolozzi – Premium Lager

an exceptionally refined beer with a perfect bitter-sweet balance and fabulously sparkling appearance.

Lerwick Brewery (Lerwick, Scotland) – IPA – IPA

The star of the show in any IPA is the hops and for Lerwick IPA we’ve used only American hops, with a blend of malts, to give it a distinctive colour and flavour. Our IPA gives the drinker a big, hoppy hit from the Cascade hops and, whilst the light effervescence and 5% ABV enhances the sweet malt characters, it complements the bitter finish to give a well-balanced, refreshing beer.

Brewgooder (Edinburgh, Scotland) – Clean Water Lager – Lager

Made with crystal malts and a completely unique blend of Sorachi Ace and Saaz hops that explode the possibilities of the traditional lager style. No other lager style tastes quite like ours, no other beer provides others with clean drinking water.
100% of the profits being donated to water charities in the developing world.

Rothhammer (Santiago, Chile) – Brave Red Ale – Amber Ale

Soulful Chilean craft beer, brewed at the foot of the Andes mountain range with magnum and mosaic hops.

Stewart Brewing (Edinburgh, Scotland) – Embra – Amber Ale

A tribute to the glorious American hop Chinook, Embra is a classic full bodied amber beer with powerful aromas of earthy fruits. Malt and caramel flavours help to balance a full, yet soft bitterness.
